“Not all storms come to disrupt your life; some come to clear your path.”

Our way of life has changed, requiring us to adapt to this new normal, and also the way we do Pilates is no exception to these changes.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Pilates instructors around the world quickly came up with online options for their clients.  Some were doing it already, for a niche, and others took courage seeing them and tried to do the same. Until it became clear that it was really necessary to do it to remain in the game.

Surprisingly, people that used to do Pilates before, were committed to continue with their training, and welcomed the new challenge. I was truly surprised to see older people that created a Zoom account and with no questions showed up for the first classes! I have so much admiration for them.

–         How does the future look like? Will Pilates online die?

Many Pilates teachers, myself included, will continue to offer classes via Zoom due to their popularity and success, even after the studios will reopen. We would never have discovered this option if we weren’t in this situation, and without being forced to find alternative workout solutions during lockdown.

With the time, someone will be missing the social part of a Pilates mat class at the studio…but in general, Pilates online has definitely been well received.

From my side, I’m loving it because it’s time saving and so convenient. You end the class and you are few steps from your shower, or your bedroom, or your favourite coffee cup.  And if you are working from home, you can start working right at the end of your class (sorry!) without facing traffic and running late. It just perfectly adapts to your routine!

When we will be out of this, it will be your choice which option is the best for you, and this may change over time.  It’s amazing to know we have these options available though. Despite what is happening around, we can adapt and still find ways of doing the activities that we enjoy and are essential for our health & well-being, such as Pilates of course 🙂 .
